The magic of festivals

Festivals. Some people are totally addicted to them, others think they're a nightmare.

And me, I guess I'm part of the first group, although I'm not a festi-junky yet. Either way, if they are big, small, very popular or totally unknown: I absolutely love them, without any doubt.

It's feels a lot like traveling -and you all know how much I love that-: you're not at home, with your friends, having the time of your life. It feels like you are, for a short period of time, in a different world. A small world on it's own. Filled with music lovers, colors, joyful sounds and tasty (exotic) food.

"And at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy, and your eyes sparkling."

Festivals have such a special atmosphere, it almost feels like there's magic in the air. From the second you wake up till the moment you go to sleep, your day is filled with good vibes. Everywhere you look, you see happy faces, you hear infinite laughter and you feel the heat of the sun upon your body (well, if the weather gods are willing). The sight is filled with beautiful flags, balloons, lampions and flashing lights. And nothing's more wonderful than a sunset upon a wildly singing crowd, while hot air balloons pass through the sky.

Life's chill over there. There's no rush, no stress, no worries. There's a spot for everyone: those who want to be easy going can install themselves at one of the many 'chill zones'. Those who want to eat great food have numerous choice between junk- and world-food. The ones who want to get as many free gadgets as possible can pass by the hundreds merchandise stands where they offer snapbacks, tattoo's, badges, sunglasses and many more. The creative ones can go and discover eco-friendly attractions, make they're own canvas bags, sing along with the karaoke, shop the vintage store or make a flower crown. You wear what you want to wear, and no one cares if that's a bikini, crop top, oversized t-shirt or skirt. You want to wear a hat with weed-leaves on it? That's totally allright, such as your glowing bracelets and neon make up. As long as you're smiling and having fun!

Though, it must be horrible for those who are very fond of comfort. You sleep in a tent -which is usually a mess because backpacks aren't the most practical bags to find something-, the showers are always crowded and muddy, you haven't got any electricity -so charging your phone usually costs a lot money and of patience- and once the first day passed, the toilets are incredibly stinky and dirty, totally not the place where you'd go and suit yourself. But hey, it's got its charm!

And of course, the reason we all go there: you can enjoy performances of your favorite artists, which can be a lifetime experience too. You dance till your feet hurt, feeling the bass inside your chest and hearing the voices of ten thousand other people sing along with your favorite song. You feel like you are one with the crowd, cheering over the same musical madness on the stage in front of you.

By the time your tired dirty feet bring you to your temporary home, your head is filled with a bunch of new wonderful memories. By the time your messy hair is covering your air mattress, you know these are days you'll never forget. And by the time your sparkling eyes finally close, you know that at that exact moment, there's no place you'd rather be.
